Robin lives in East London but grew up in York, in North Yorkshire. His father, Clive Martin OBE, is the founding director of Clinks, the national charity supporting voluntary organisations that work with people in the criminal justice system. His mother, Anne Lloyd, was a physicist and a feminist. Both fought for a kinder world — and a lot of what Robin does, from the rooms he hosts to the conversations he curates, is his way of carrying that on, with more jokes.
The Sea Is Big Enough to Take It
In 2018 Robin debuted his solo comedy hour, The Sea Is Big Enough to Take It, at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe — a tender story of his relationship with his mum. It was recommended by the Daily Express, the Daily Mirror and The Independent, and described as:
“Elegantly constructed with irreverence, verve and ebullient comic acting” — The Scotsman ★★★★
“As thought provoking as it is funny” — Broadway Baby ★★★★
“If you’re not visibly moved by the end you might want to check your pulse” — The Edinburgh Reporter ★★★★
“Delightfully strange, moving and hilarious” — One4Review ★★★★
Robin talked to Cariad Lloyd about the show and his mum on Griefcast.
